I Coronation Anthems di Georg Friedrich Händel rappresentano l’immancabile colonna sonora delle cerimonie di incoronazione di ogni sovrano che sieda sul trono del Regno Unito, a partire da quella di Giorgio II (nel 1727) per arrivare all’attuale reggente Carlo III, in carica dal 2022. Il compositore sassone ha concepito questi inni come una maestosa raccolta di opere celebrative, degne della loro augusta destinazione, nell’alveo di quell’impronta stilistica ed espressiva con cui stava disegnando le nuove linee nei campi del melodramma e dell’oratorio in lingua inglese. Il programma è completato dalla rara esecuzione dell’Anthem on the peace scritto da Handel nel 1749 per la pace di Aquisgrana oltre ad una spumeggiante ouverture per l’Arrivo della Regina di Saba e dalla celebrativa suite da “Water music”.
